New York State CEC is proud to announce our Keynote speaker, Dr. Audrey Sorrells. She will speak at our luncheon on Friday, October 23, 2009. As a special educator for over 15 years and university professor for 10 years, Dr. Audrey Sorrells knows firsthand what is required to successfully teach culturally and linguistically diverse students with special needs. In her book Critical Issues in Special Education: Access, Diversity, and Accountability she addresses the educational needs for this population of students. Dr. Sorrells is a Fellow in the Lee Hage Jamail Regents Chair in Education, was a Postdoctoral Fellow with the Ford Foundation and National Research Council and a Dean’s Fellow at The University of Texas at Austin.

Transportation Information:

The Buffalo-Niagara International Airport is 25 miles from the Crowne Plaza. Although the hotel does not operate an airport shuttle, there are several modes of transportation available outside the baggage claim area of the airport.

Also, as a convenience to hotel guests, the Crowne Plaza has partnered with
Budget Rent-a-Car and has negotiated a discounted rate program for hotel guests. Budget has 8 locations in Western New York including an on-airport location at the
Buffalo-Niagara International Airport and another location in Niagara Falls in close proximity to the Niagara Falls Airport (directly across the street).

The hotel offers ample parking for hotel guests in the adjacent, city-operated flat lot.
NYS CEC conference attendees who are guests in the hotel will be offered a discounted rate of $3.00 per day for hotel parking.
